Peace Education Initiative in Nepal: Redressing the Value of 'Celebrating Diversity'

In a multicultural society, education can both foster the value of ‘celebrating diversity’ and thereby social harmony but it also tensions fuel conflicts by promoting cultural homogenisation. Using content analysis policies, curriculum textbooks this study examined way Nepal’s historical system shifted from monocultural towards peace approach. This revealed that, including contents that promote values, critical initiative contributes to redressing socio-political fuelled historically. However, local ownership, longer term commitment stakeholders, regular consultations with representatives different groups in curricular reform are essential for successful initiative.
